Environmental citizenship

1. 01 Step

   Purpose

   C4 ties environmental citizenship to the European Union’s environmental strategies. The Söke e-book sits the programme on five steps: awareness, research, action, evaluation and dissemination. Ten learning scenarios are written for ages 14–18; core skills and advanced civic action sit in the same book.

2. 02 Step

   Content

   Ecosystem services, the European Green Deal, Fit for 55, circular economy, the European Climate Law, the Just Transition Fund and biodiversity move from the e-book into the session. A local environmental problem is tied to these policy names; no invented indicator is added.

3. 03 Step

   Learning and teaching process

   First the Söke e-book’s four-heading needs survey is used (knowledge, attitude, behaviour, policy awareness). Then, where possible, a waste-point or school-garden task follows. Science and geography teachers may run a joint laboratory.

4. 04 Step

   Evaluation

   Behaviour frequency (sorting, consumption), policy awareness (“I know the Green Deal”) and a short field report are monitored. The pre-survey sets the baseline.

European Union values

Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union lists solidarity among the Union’s values. Discussion question: can one consumption choice weaken the environmental rights of a young person in another European city?

Club practice The club follows the action step in the Söke e-book. For one month the group chooses one local environmental problem, records one observation and carries out one small, visible action at school.
